If you’re a fan of the Smiths, this song, off of the Parenthetical Girls’ third annual Christmas EP, is the gift you’ve been waiting for. While it’s no secret that the Girls are heavily indebted to the Smiths, this is the first time they’ve gone all-in on the Johnny Marr-style fretwork, pairing an intricate fingerpicked acoustic melody with washes of vibrato-heavy chords. The end result essentially sounds like an outtake from Strangeways, Here We Come—as great as Zac Pennington’s delivery is on this track, just try to listen to this without imagining those same words coming out of Morrissey’s mouth. Grab the new EP for free over at the Parenthetical Girls’ bandcamp page.
